A Sony representative made it known that that the tech company will not charge their customers for the patches. But, a Sony executive suggests that publishers may come to a resolution to charge for the upgrades.

Jack Sipich, founder of Absinthe Games (video game developers for PlayStation, Xbox and PC), said in a statement that developers are not allowed to charge consumers for patches or even the PlayStation 4 Pro feature updates, based on the report of Polygon.

A number of existing PlayStation 4 games will be patched to add support for the PS4 Pro's increased power and high dynamic range (HDR) color features. The publishers of those video games may charge players for the patches, according to Game Impress Watch.

Sony Interactive Entertainment executive Masayasu Ito pointed out that patches for those updates in existing PlayStation 4 games with 4K HDR support may cost money. Masayasu suggested that publishers may have grounds for charging the players, Game Spot reported.

When Ito was asked asked if the 4K HDR patches will cost money, he replied that it will be different for each title, and he believes that it will depend on each of the licensee. At that point, the executive of Sony was referring to the third-party publishers.

However, PlayStation 4 owners should take note that since the interview with Sony's executive was carried out in Japanese and translated into English, some information or facts may have been deleted in the process of translating.

Anyway, if a person will purchase a PS4 Pro, the 4K and HDR are two of the major advantages they will definitely have. The console was made known during the PlayStation Meeting on September 7 and it will be launched on November 10, 2016. PS4 Pro is expected to cost $399 and it will feature a 1 terabyte hard drive, an increased CPU clock speed and doubled GPU power.
