While Microsoft continues to remain mum regarding the Surface Phone release date and have not divulged any sort of details regarding the purported phone, optimistic fans are speculating that the Redmond based tech giant will finally unveil it at the ongoing IFA 2016 in Berlin.

The said event is slated to run until Wednesday, September 7, which means fans still have a couple of days of waiting should Microsoft unveil the Surface phone. If rumors doing rounds are anything to go by, the Windows phone will make an appearance by end of the year.

Meanwhile, zealous fans are waiting with bated breath to see what Microsoft plans to offer with their Surface Phone. Amid these speculations doing rounds, some conflicting reports suggest that Microsoft will take the wraps off the Surface phone in October with their own press event, according to Vine Report.

There is no confirmation yet that Microsoft is attending IFA 2016; plus, there is a possibility that Microsoft might not spill the beans about Surface Phone release date at the aforesaid event. If rumors proved to be true, Microsoft will replace the Lumia 950 and the 950 XL with the rumored smartphone but the official specs and features are yet to be revealed.

Even the Surface Pro 5 tablet laptop hybrid has not made an appearance yet. A slew of leaked photos hint that a Surface tablet is likely to be released this year with others for 2017; however, there is no concrete evidence for the Surface Phone yet.

Microsoft Surface Phones 2016: Specs & Features

Speculated Surface Phone specs indicate that it will sport a 5.5-inch AMOLED display, and a high-end version will boast up to 8GB of RAM, iTech reported.

Since Intel has thrown the towel in as far as its mobile processor business is concerned, the device is likely to be powered either by a Snapdragon 830 chipset or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821.

Microsoft's Surface Phone entry variant is likely to come with 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM, which is superfluity for the average smartphone user.

The mid-range, on the other hand, seems to be little more extreme with 128GB and 6GB of RAM. However, the most exorbitant option - and probably with the least possibility of turning out to be true - is the 500GB variant.

The said Microsoft Surface Phone 2016 variants are rumored to come packed in an aluminium and magnesium body featuring a 20MP Carl Zeiss rear camera paired with Surface Pen functionality, accelerometer, a fingerprint reader, barometer and proximity sensors, gyro and a compass. Continuum support, liquid cooling technology as well as USB Type-C connectivity are also said to be on board.
