'Pitch Perfect 3' Movie News: Pitch Perfect Finally Gets New Director; Kay Cannon Comes Back To Write Script [VIDEO]
ByThe acapella-themed film, "Pitch Perfect" has definitely struck a chord with moviegoers as it continues to be loved by fans, and every news about an upcoming sequel is entirely welcomed. Its sequel, "Pitch Perfect 2" was also successful at the box-office, so it is only natural that they would want to do a third one. But with the news of Elizabeth Banks' departure from the franchise, fans of the musical comedy are wondering about the fate of the third installment.
Back in June, it was reported by Variety that Elizabeth Banks who made her directorial debut with the second Pitch Perfect film will not be back to helm "Pitch Perfect 3," due to issues with her work schedule. Jason Moore who directed the first film was also asked to return but was unavailable. Banks is set to portray the role of the villain "Rita Repulsa" in the upcoming "Power Rangers" movie. Banks did however clarify that she is not leaving because of other projects.
With the release date being pushed back to December, and no director to lead them, it would seem that the "Barden Bellas" may be in a bit of trouble - until now.
But in a report by FilmAndTVNow, after an exhaustive search for a successor to Banks, Pitch Perfect 3 finally found its director in the form of Trish Sie.
Sie is only known to have directed one film, which is "Step Up: All In," the fifth and final installment of the "Step Up" dance-themed film franchise. Aside from film, Sie has been known to be a choreographer, and one of the minds behind OK Go's videos, which began with "Here It Goes Again," to which her involvement is only natural as she is the sister of OK Go frontman, Damian Kulash.
On the other hand, according to ComingSoon.Net, Kay Cannon who penned the first 2 Pitch Perfect films, is coming back to write the script for "Pitch Perfect 3."
