2016 Rio Olympics Results: Simone Biles Bounces Back After Balance Beam Blunder, Earns Fourth Gold Medal
ByRecent 2016 Rio Olympics results revealed that Simone Biles has earned her fourth gold medal. This comes after her balance beam blunder on Monday, when a mistake ended her winning streak.
It was reported that Simone Biles landed awkwardly while completing a front somersault in the middle of her routine. She reached down with both hands to steady herself when her right foot slipped.
She got a score of 14.733. Biles took home the bronze medal while Sanne Wevers of the Netherlands and fellow Team USA gymnast Laurie Hernandez got gold and silver, respectively. Wevers earned a 15.433 while Hernandez got a score of 15.333.
According to the official 2016 Rio Olympics results website, Simone Biles has earned her fourth gold medal with a spectacular performance in the floor exercise event on Tuesday, Aug. 16. Fellow Team USA member Aly Raisman took home the silver medal and is followed by Great Britain's Amy Tinkler.
She scored 15.966 for her floor routine, while Raisman got 15.500. Biles has already won three straight world championship titles.
"I think we put the cherry on top with Aly and me finishing on floor as well as we did," she said, via TIME. "There is some sense of relief. But I am sad at how fast this whole thing went. I'm excited it's over but kind of sad too."
It may not be so sad after all since the 19-year-old gymnast got a visit from her celebrity crush, Zac Efron. CBS reported that the "Neighbors" star took to Twitter to share his support for the "Final Five."
"Of course I'm watching the Final Five," Zac Efron wrote. "Dominate the floor!"
The actor was not able to watch Simone Biles and the others in action in the 2016 Rio Olympics. However, he was able to surprise the 19-year-old when she went to one of NBC's studios in Rio.
Simone Biles joined fellow Team USA stars and power swimmers Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky for the cover of Sports Illustrated's Aug. 2016 issue. The 2016 Rio Olympics superstars brought along their gold medals for the shoot, People reported.
