"No Man's Sky" Multi Tool is the game's weapon that can be used in multiple occasions with multiple purposes. It is used for many useful tasks and other useful functions, available once it gets upgraded.

First, the Multi Tool is used to mine elements to replenish a player's Life Support gauge. It also has two scan functions, the Analysis Visor and the Scanner. "No Man's Sky" Analysis Visor is used to identify plant and animal life. It can also be used to identify distant waypoints and alien constructions. The Scanner, on the other hand, will show the player the what surrounds the area, from elements to constructs to waypoints, VG247 reported.

Once the Multi Tool's scan functions are fixed, the Mining Beam can be used to harvest elements in "No Man's Sky" space. The Mining Beam lets the Multi-Tool emit a laser at different objects in order for the player to mine elements from it. However, it cannot be used continuously.

Along the "No Man's Sky" journey, players will encounter aggressive alien life. The Mining Beam can be used to harm the aggressors with the Beam but the damage is just minimal. This can be upgraded, however, another better option for combat, the Boltcaster, can be used, Polygon reported.

The Boltcaster uses ammo instead of a laser just like a traditional gun. It can cause more damage and can fire quicker. It does not overheat but its ammo will run out so the player needs to reload. "No Man's Sky" upgrades for the Boltcaster are plentiful.

Another upgrade to the "No Man's Sky" Multi-Tool is the Grenades pack. It can bring the much needed punch in combat and can be used to help excavate elements quicker. Different upgrades give Grenades added properties, from being able to ricochet off objects to a larger blast radius.

"No Man's Sky" Grenades and the Boltcaster may give the player a way to break into doors that do not open automatically. A player just needs to aim the Multi Tool at a door and break it down as the gun appears. Watch the "No Man's Sky" Multi-Tool tutorial here.
