A massive report regarding the latest iPhone has been thrown out, but features on a potential Apple Watch upgrade have been attracting attention by their absence considering the original version was unleashed almost two years ago.

The multinational technology company Apple is said to be in the process of making plans for two new models of the Watch for 2016. The extensive upgrade is named as "Apple Watch 2," and, reportedly, the gadget will have the approximate design as the current Watch.

But, the upcoming or the latest "Apple Watch" will feature new internal components such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) radio, a thinner display, a barometer, as well as a new, faster 16nm processor from the semiconductor manufacturing company - TSMC, according to The Verge.

It has been claimed that the distinctive attributes of the "Apple Watch 2" will require a larger battery, in which it prevented Apple Inc. from cutting down on the device's size.

Looking ahead, Apple is not expected to change its wearable form factor in 2017, a year that will most likely bring Long-Term Evolution (LTE) support for standalone phone and data functionality. More radical design changes should arrive in 2018 together with improved applications and a potential approval from FDA, Apple Insider reported.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that upgraded first-generation Apple Watch models will debut in the second half of 2016, but most likely without the "Apple Watch 2's" most significant additions like a GPS and a barometer. The analyst believes another discount for the current smartwatch once the new models are launched, but stayed conservative about prospective shipments in 2017, according to Mac Rumors.

However, the tech giant has been pushing the launch of the iPhone and Apple Watch together. The "iPhone 7" is said to be released on September 16. And pre-orders will possibly start a week earlier on September 9.
