"Project Greenlight" has been cancelled by HBO as they declared that they will no longer move forward to another installment of the series. This cancellation marks the second time that HBO has renewed a project only to cancel it again.

"Project Greenlight" Season 4 Cancelled

HBO said that they initially imagined one season revival and have realized in early 2016 that another season does not make sense to them after careful consideration, Vanity Fair reported. They then added that they are proud of the "Project Greenlight's" run throughout the years and it was not an easy decision for them to terminate the show.

HBO declared their respect for the creative team and cast for their hard work and passion on "Project Greenlight." The docuseries was executive produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck along with Adaptive Studios.

Damon said that he was surprised by the network's decision but he understands it. He further discussed how he liked "Project Greenlight" and how he believes it went great. Damon added that he cannot question HBO's programming as they do a great job, but the producers intend to take it out again to other streaming services like Netflix or Amazon.

"Project Greenlight" was featured on HBC in its first two seasons from 2001 to 2003 and headed to Bravo to a year for the third season. HBO then brought it back in September 2015, however, the "Project Greenlight" just reached a total of 154,000 total viewers, CTV News reported.

"Project Greenlight" is a docuseries that followed first time filmmakers through the ups and downs in making a movie. However, a controversy overshadowed "Project Greenlight's" Season 4 when Damon sparked backlash.

The "Bourne" actor told producer Effie Brown that the team should focus on diversity in the casting of the film primarily rather than the casting of the show. Damon later apologized for his remarks. Watch HBO's trailer of the series here.
