Mount Ida College will start a $12 million building and restoration project this summer in order to improve facilities for its residential and commuter students.
Officials plan to convert all the three floors of Carlson Hall into a student center. The center is set to feature multiple dining choices, recreation and study areas, indoor and outdoor patio seating, a convenience store and market.
Malloy Hall, the largest residence hall on campus, will be renovated to include student lounges, a cafe and study areas on each floor.
A new student fitness center with state-of-the-art fitness and weight equipments will be added to the existing Athletic Center.
Lastly, the college officials plan to improve certain academic facilities, specially its dental hygiene center in a bid to improve enrolments for their dental hygiene and other science programs.
The campus improvements, which are scheduled to begin in May, will be completed by August.
"Mount Ida is experiencing tremendous growth in its career-focused programs. We are building to meet that demand to provide our students with the best campus facilities possible to match our superb majors and program offerings. When the project is completed this fall, our residential and commuter students like never before will realize a high quality, cutting-edge academic and campus experience," said Mount Ida College President Barry Brown.
The college will be using its bond revenue, operating income and gifts to finance the projects.
