Chinese smartphone maker, OnePlus has not yet made an official announcement about the release date of its next flagship, the OnePlus 3. Rumors doing rounds online, however speculate that the much-awaited handset is slated to debut on Wednesday, May 18.
These rumors stem from a few leaked photos doing rounds on the internet.
Just a few days away from the purported launch of the OnePlus 3, here's what the handset might bring to those eagerly waiting for its debut.
Rumors initially hinted that the OnePlus 3 could release in June citing the fact that the first-gen OnePlus On followed this routine. The OnePlus 2 made its debut in August last year.
If the latest reports are anything to go by, the OnePlus 3 is slated to release in just a few days from now, on May 18 to be precise. The May 18 schedule comes courtesy of GizmoChina, which has earned a reputation for accurately predicting launches of smartphones from Chinese smartphone makers.
There is no word on the city or venue where the popular Chinese smartphone maker will unveil the OnePlus 3, however judging by the company's launch history, Beijing just might be the place, reports TechTimes.
In an exclusive interview with CNET en Espanol, Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus confirmed that the highly-anticipated OnePlus 3 is in fact slated to debut at the end of the Q2; which is around end of June.
Pei remained mum when it came to giving more details about the OnePlus 3 smartphone, but he did mention that the company is expecting that their new model will captivate the users, just like its first smartphone. As far as the phone's availability is concerned, Pei confirmed that the new handset will be available in the U.S. along with other markets as an unlocked phone. OnePlus will be directly distributing the new handset.
As described by Ecumenical News, the leaked photos posted at Weibo hint the device has an all-metal body design. OnePlus 3 reportedly sports a little curve on its back. In addition, the new phone will come with antenna bands at the top and bottom. The home button is situated up front.
Judging by the leaked photos, the rear camera looks quite unusual. The leaked photos also show a 16 megapixel rear camera and the front-facing camera is 8 megapixel.
Reporting on other leaked photos of the OnePlus 3, Phone Arena revealed that the handset features a 5-inch or 5.5-inch screen with 1080x1920 resolution. It is powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset with a quad-core 2.2GHz CPU and the Adreno 530 GPU. The leaked photos also hint a possibility of the handset launching as two different model - 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM.
The variant with 4GB will reportedly be sold in the U.S. for $385, while the 3GB variant will be sold for $310.
The handset also packs a slightly larger 3,500mAh battery that goes hand in hand with the quick charging system called Dash Charge that facilitates speedy recharge.
The photos further reveal that the forthcoming new model mirrors the cosmetic appearance of the HTC One M9, which made its debut last year.
