In collaboration with Mojang and Microsoft, Nintendo is all set to bring together the super imaginative worlds of Minecraft and Super Mario series for the first time ever.

Wii U Edition of Minecraft is slated to get a free update that brings an array of Super Mario-themed features into the popular sandbox video game, Nintendo announced Monday, May 9.

The "Super Mario Mash-Up Pack" will debut as a free download exclusively for the Wii U version of the game on May 17, and come including the retail disc when it launches on June 17 for $29.99.

Minecraft: Wii U Edition has been available for download since its launch in December.

According to reports on ArsTechnica, the "Super Mario Mash-Up Pack" will boast 40 Mario-themed skins, new world and Mario series-inspired item textures. It will also include 15 pieces of music from Super Mario 64 that will enable players to build their own Super Mario themed world.

The new Super Mario-themed skins revamps the game's characters into beloved heroes such as Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach. Players can also opt to transform the game's character into some familiar heels including Bowser, Wario and all seven Koopalings.

As far as the world and item textures in the game are concerned, they will be redone as well, allowing players to create their own Super Mario-themed locations within the world of Minecraft.

But that's not all. While listening to the smooth sounds of 15 pieces of music from Super Mario 64, all builders, irrespective of their ages will enjoy crafting massive new worlds with the help of building blocks inspired by a series that's equally recognizable as Super Mario. The update also includes one pre-made world.

In a statement, Nintendo VP of publisher and developer relations Steve Singer noted that "both the Super Mario franchise and Minecraft embrace the magic of exploration and discovery."

"Players will have a great time adventuring and creating in this free game update that embraces the unique and memorable elements of both franchises," Singer added.

The Wii U version of Minecraft not only features the full game, but it also encompasses many of the most popular previously launched content packs for no extra charge.

Minecraft garnered huge popularity since its debut in 2011. Selling over 70 million games worldwide, it became a global phenomenon. In the game, players find themselves in a huge randomly generated world that they can explore. Players can craft anything they want by using the available resources.

The Wii U version of Minecraft boasts an array of awe-inspiring features such as Off-TV Play, touch screen functionality and online multiplayer.
