Now, students have one more reason to attend this prestigious university.

According to a research conducted by Wealth-X, Harvard University has the highest number of richest living alumni or "ultra-high-net-worth" individuals, valued at around $30 million.

So far, 2,964 ultra-high-net-worth individuals worth $622 billion and the highest number of self made billionaires, 52, with a total of $205 billion have passed through its portals.

As a result, it tops the Wealth-X's global list of Wealthiest Billionaire Alumni.

Wealth-X is a global ultra high net worth (UHNW) prospecting, intelligence and wealth due diligence firm.

University of Pennsylvania secures second spot on the list with 1,502 alumni of ultra high net worth individuals with a total of $242 billion and 28 billionaire alumni with a total wealth of $112 billion.

Stanford University New York University and Columbia University follow in the list among others.

Only three universities outside the U.S.; Oxford University, University of Mumbai and University of Cambridge have qualified for the top 20 list.

"American universities dominate the rankings largely because these prestigious institutions have been able to attract global talent," David Friedman, president of Wealth-X , told Private Health

Friedman said that these universities served as launch pads for many of the world's most successful entrepreneurs and companies.

While the list was dominated by American private universities, certain well-known public universities also managed to squeeze in like the University of Virginia, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Michigan.

Friedman said that a majority of these wealthy alumni are 'self made', meaning, the entrepreneurial spirit of individuals attending these universities is high and strong.
