Rhode Island Medical Imaging has donated $2,500 to support the Providence College (PC) Women's Basketball Program's initiatives to end breast cancer.
With the help of the donation, the college purchased new pink uniforms, which will be worn, Feb.26, at the "Think Pink" game against Marquette University at the Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium.
'Think Pink' games are organised for breast cancer survivors, where they are honoured for their determination to fight cancer. This games are played between university teams to support and raise funds for various cancer related initiatives.
Dr. Scott Levine of RIMI said that the organisation is happy to partner with PC Women's Basketball Program for a great cause.
Levine said that eradication of breast cancer is a top priority with RIMI and they were ready to assist organizations to help achieve the goal.
Once the game is over, the uniforms worn by the players will be thoroughly cleaned and auctioned off.
After accepting the fund, PC Women's Basketball coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl thanked RIMI for their generous contribution to their program.
"The 'Think Pink' game is always a fun and exciting event - no matter what team you're rooting for, we should all unite in the fight to end breast cancer," Fruchtl said.
"It's a disease that has affected many people. This is a great cause, one that we embrace and support here," MSU head coach Vic Schaefer told Hattiesburg American. "We're looking forward to not only doing our part to support the fight against breast cancer, but also to a competitive game against LSU."
Spectators at the game are encouraged to wear pink clothes and to provide some voluntary donations.
MSU will play against LSU at Humphrey Coliseum, 12:30 p.m., Sunday.
