With "Game of Thrones" plots in the North, South, and beyond the Narrow Sea building over the last couple seasons, one region in particular has fallen out of view: the Riverlands.
But a fresh batch of plot leaks and cast sightings heavily indicates that not only will viewers be re-introduced to the Riverlands, a main character is going there as well.
Be forewarned of spoilers and speculation for the sixth and upcoming season of "Game of Thrones," but first, a refresher on the Riverlands.
Catelyn Stark nee Tully's father ruled the Riverlands from his castle, Riverrun, before Walder Frey betrayed her and her son, Robb Stark, at the Red Wedding in Season three. Walder has presumably been ruling the Riverlands since from his castle, The Twins.
Citing reports from Los Siete Reinos, Watchers on the Wall learned of a major return to the Riverlands with actors including Clive Russell, Tobias Menzies, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Jerome Flynn all being spotted on set.
So what are those names supposed to mean?
Russell plays Brynden "Blackfish" Tully, Catelyn's uncle. He will likely be holding Riverrun in protest to the Crown.
Menzies, who portrays Edmure Tully, Catelyn's brother, will be Walder's prisoner at the Twins. David Bradely, the actor who portrays Walder, already confirmed to Zap2It that he is reprising his role in season six, so it appears we will be returning to The Twins.
Coster-Waldau and Flynn, a.k.a. Jaime Lannister and Ser Bronn of the Blackwater, respectively, were last seen returning to King's Landing from Dorne. The Riverlands are a bit of a hike from the Capitol, but it is not unreasonable that Jaime would depart immediately after returning home.
Jamie will probably be charged with ending Riverrun's resistance, a book plot Thrones has thus far left alone. Watchers also obtained photos of the Riverrun set, and the crimson tents pretty much confirm Jaime will be taking a Lannister company there this season.
Lastly, Watchers learned Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) was filming scenes in the Riverlands as well, setting up a potential reunion for Brienne and Jaime. That very reunion does occur in the books and it implicates the highly improbable introduction of another character Thrones has resisted for the last two seasons.
