Police and town officials in Goldsboro, N.C. have a "person of interest" in the Wayne Community College (WCC) shooting Monday morning that left one person dead.

According to the News-Argus, Maj. Tom Effler identified Kenneth Stancil as the person of interest at a press conference midday Monday. Reporting the events at WCC in real time on Twitter, the Argus had not obtained new information since around 10:30 a.m., when students and faculty members had been safely removed from the buildings and police were conducting a sweep.

WRAL shared footage of the press conference on their website.

Tara Humphries, public information officer at WCC, said the shooter entered the campus just after 8 a.m. and killed one person.

Effler would not call Stancil a suspect, but pointed out that "a person of interest [turns] into a suspect" over the course of an investigation. Stancil is a white male with a bald head and tattoos on his face, matching the description of the shooting suspect. Effler also said the suspect is not on campus and is still at large, as the police had completed an extensive search of the campus.

He said the shooting was "an isolated incident" and was able to name Stancil, a former student who did not complete his degree and possibly an ex-employee at WCC, as a person of interest with the help of people at the school.

The victim in the shooting was identified as Ron Lane, the Argus reported. He was a WCC employee and was working on the third floor of the building that houses the school's library when he was shot.
