Jesse Matthew Jr., the man believed to have abducted Hannah Graham, will soon be charged with first-degree murder.
Unnamed sources told CBS 6 Charlottesville that the criminal charge will be announced at a press conference Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. Graham, a student at the University of Virginia, went missing in Sept. and was found dead in Oct. and Matthew has been the main suspect most of the time.
The Albemarle County Police Department and the Albemarle County Commonwealth's Attorney announced the press conference in a press release obtained by NBC 29. In the release, they said they would be "providing an update in the Jesse Matthew case."
Matthew is currently being held on the charge of abduction with intent to defile. He was the last person seen with Graham before she disappeared. Matthew was also tied forensically to an abducted Virginia Tech student named Morgan Harrington, who disappeared in late 2009 and was found dead in early 2010. Graham's body was found some six miles from where Harrington's was.
In Nov., Virginia's medical examiner determined Graham died of "homicidal violence," but could not determine the cause, the AP reported at the time.
Matthew's DNA has also connected him to the assault and rape of a woman in Fairfax, Va. in 2005. For that case, which he pleaded not guilty, he is charged with attempted capital murder, rape and sexual assault.
Matthew was eyed as a person of interest for Graham's disappearance in Sept., but he abruptly left the police station after coming in for questioning. After issuing the warrant for his arrest on the abduction charge, Matthew fled to Galveston, Texas where he was taken into custody.
