Treon Harris' Sexual Assault Accuser Drops Complaint, QB Reinstated to Gators Football Team
ByThe woman who accused Treon Harris of sexual assault has dropped her complaint and the Florida Gators quarterback has been reinstated to the football team.
Huntley Johnson, an attorney representing Harris, told ESPN his client "is no longer banned from campus [and can] resume UF activities." However, he missed an entire of practices and will not play Saturday against LSU.
Florida head football coach Will Muschamp also confirmed that Harris has been cleared to rejoin the football team, NBC Sports reported.
"We have been notified that the University and legal process is complete. Treon has been reinstated to the team, but he will not play Saturday," he said in a statement. "This has been a learning experience for everyone involved. Treon has been honest with me throughout the process and is looking forward to rejoining his teammates."
Janine Sikes, a university spokeswoman, said in a statement that the legal matter is not closed and that the complainant may still press charges.
"This means she is not pursuing criminal charges against him at this time but maintains the right to do so in the future," she said.
Harris came off the bench last Saturday in a road game against Tennessee and helped facilitate a comeback 10-9 win. Relieving a struggling Jeff Driskel, the true freshman QB may have been a candidate to start Saturday when hosting LSU, but his indefinite suspension kept him out of all team activities.
Unnamed sources previously told the Tampa Bay Times that Harris said he would see the complainant back to her residence safely. Both were at a party welcoming back the victorious Gators home from the game in Chattanooga. The next day, the woman filed a sexual assault complaint against Harris.
