The University of Florida (UF) Police Department is investigating Treon Harris, the football team's backup quarterback, for sexual assault.
An unnamed source with knowledge of the matter told Florida Today of the investigation and said Harris' status on the Gators is uncertain. A female student accused the QB of sexually assaulting her early Sunday morning in a campus residence hall.
UF head football coach Will Muschamp also cancelled his weekly Monday news conference.
According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, UF President Bernie Machen released a statement on the matter Monday, while Harris has been suspended indefinitely from the Gators. UF also announced the school's police will be working with the Gainesville Police to collect and analyze evidence.
"We have no tolerance for sexual assault on our campus," Machen said. "The university is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for every member of the UF community. We must strive to protect all our students from sexual harassment and assault and do everything in our power to promote a safe learning environment."
The rest of the Gators football team is reportedly to learn of the incident in practice Monday.
According to ESPN, Harris facilitated a comeback win over Tennessee Saturday, when the Gators scored all their 10 points in the fourth quarter to win by a point. He relieved Jeff Driskel, who completed 11 passes in 23 attempts, was picked off three times and only totaled 89 total yards of offense.
Harris did not score any touchdowns and only accumulated 41 total yards, but Muschamp said in his post-game media address that Harris is "one of those guys who have that 'it' factor." At Booker T. Washington High School, Harris won two state championships and won 22 consecutive games.
