Apple still has some products to introduce and one piece of important software, both of which will officially be unveiled at an event on Oct. 16, not the 21st.

Unnamed sources told Re/Code of the new date for the event, in which Apple will show off new iPads, iMacs and release OS X Yosemite. The event will be far more subdued than the Sept. event was and will be held in Apple's Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino, Calif.

Naturally, Apple did not wish to comment on the report.

One source "familiar with the matter" told Bloomberg News that Apple will unveil a new 9.7-inch iPad, presumably the second in the Air line. Also getting shown off will be a new iPad Mini, but the supersized 12.9-inch iPad will have to wait.

Bloomberg News reported Wednesday that Apple will be bringing the gold-white, silver-white and slate gray-black color pallet to the iPad line. In that report, sources also said the 12.9-inch iPad ("iPad Plus," perhaps?) will not be introduced until next year.

As consumers are getting their hands on larger smartphones, a trend Apple has given into, the iPad's sales have suffered. In decline for two straight quarters, the iPad is used to success in the tablet market.

9to5Mac reported the new iMacs to be unveiled will have the super-crisp Retina Display, a slim frame, a faster processor and better Wi-Fi antennas. Apple first introduced the Retina Display with the iPhone 4, before expanding to the iPad, then to the MacBook Pro and now the iMac will be its first desktop computer with the resolution technology.

Lastly, the new desktop operating system is expected to become available on the day of the event. OS X Yosemite will bring the visual aesthetic introduced by iOS 7 to the computer and Apple has also packed in several other software upgrades as well.
