Consumers were already expecting new iPads later this month and Apple seems on track to follow through, but with one wrinkle.
According to a report from Bloomberg News, the new version of the standard 9.7-inch iPad will be available in gold to go along with the silver and space gray options. The new report comes from unnamed sources "familiar with the matter" who requested anonymity while awaiting the official announcement.
Apple is rumored to be hosting another unveiling event on Tuesday, Oct. 1 to show off the new iPads and release OS X Yosemite, the new desktop operating system. Apple is not expected to release larger 12.9-inch iPads, which they are rumored to still be working on.
A spokesperson for Apple declined to comment on the new iPad report.
Apple first introduced gold to their devices last year with the iPhone 5S, which was offered in three color options: space gray with a black front panel and either silver or gold with a white face. The same options were offered for the newly released iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and will apparently now carry over to the new iPads.
Other than various upgrades to hardware and the tablet's capabilities, switching up the iPad's appearance was the only thing Apple could do to revamp its sales. Apple has experienced a decline in iPad sales for the last two quarters after enjoying huge success from 2010 to 2012, Bloomberg News reported.
Security concerns with the iCloud - brought on by a massive hacking expedition for various female celebrities' private photos - and a phenomenon called "bendgate" have dampened Apple's big fall. Apple has weathered both storms as best they could, spreading the word on how users can better protect their iCloud and ensuring that bent iPhone 6 Pluses are just a few isolated incidents.
However, Apple has experienced a couple of consecutive sunny days. The Chinese government has approved the new iPhones to be sold in the world's largest smartphone market and will be released around the time the new iPads are expected out.
