Yale University in Connecticut received the highest ranking among law schools in U.S. News and World Report's list of best law schools in the United States.

For the best law school ranking, U.S. News took into account many factors, including placement success, selectivity, peer assessment scores and ratings by lawyers and judges.

At the Ivy League law school students do not earn any grades at all during their first time at Yale Law School. But afterwards, they are graded only by honors, pass, low pass, credit or failure. With just 626 students enrolled, class sizes are small -- often with less than 20 students per class.

Yale University has more than 20 legal clinics on its campus, giving students the opportunity to immerse themselves in real-life legal experiences as early as their first year. Through these clinics, Students represent real clients in domestic violence disputes, apartment eviction proceedings and more. In addition to clinical experience, students can test their legal smarts in workshops and on-campus centers.

Among the law school's most notable alumni are former President Bill Clinton and Supreme court justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas.

Harvard and Stanford Universities rounded out the top three. Columbia University in New York and the University of Chicago were tied for 4th place.
