ECSU Staff Member Suspended Over Sexual Assault Charges
ByAnthony Olan Butler Jr., a 29-year-old dorm leader and an assistant women's basketball coach at the Elizabeth City State University, has been charged with entering a female student's room forcefully twice this year and sexual assault.
It is claimed that Butler entered the room at Butler Hall on the ECSU campus between Feb. 13 and March 9, 2013, and April 5.
In the first attempt, Butler tried to hug and kiss the woman. Then he tried to force himself upon her against her will.
During his second attempt in April, he came back to the same woman's room, caught hold of her waist and tried to push her onto the bed.
As a result, Butler is charged with one account of breaking and entering a woman's room and two counts for sexually harassing and assaulting her.
Currently, he has been released on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court, May 16.

Anthony O. Butler Jr., worked as a temporary Residence Security Officer for Elizabeth City State University, but has been suspended without pay from that position.
