Jurgen Klinsmann, United States Men's National Soccer Team (USMNT) coach, may not think his team can win the World Cup, but he is prepared for the slim possibility.

According to ESPN, the German soccer coach told reporters ahead of the USMNT's World Cup opener with Ghana that his return flight to the states is booked for after the tournament final. Just in case his team makes it that far, Klinsmann will at least not have to reschedule his flight.

Klinsmann has been adamant ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil that he does not think it is "realistic" for the Americans to compete for the tournament title. He first told the New York Times in early June the USMNT "cannot win this World Cup." He later backed up those comments last week, telling reporters "it is just not realistic."

However, Klinsmann and the USMNT are not going to mail it in for their three Group G matchups. The German-born coach is at least wary of the possibility of his team making a run seen as all but impossible.

"I booked my flight after the final," Klinsmann said in a news conference Sunday at Brazil's Arena das Dunas.

Group G will get underway Monday at 12 p.m. ET with a heavyweight matchup between Portugal and Germany, the favorites to advance to the round of 16. The U.S. will then play Ghana at six p.m. ET.

"We come in with the same effort, the same drive, the same energy and ambition to do well. And we want to do really well," Klinsmann said. "That's why we worked more than four weeks on our preparation, we timed it the right way to give the players the confidence they need to beat Ghana tomorrow. This is step one, then comes Portugal and then comes Germany. And then we'll see... expectations in the United States are very high."
