After losing to the San Antonio Spurs Saturday night, Derek Fisher was unable to confirm his 18th season as a player in the NBA would be his last, but it would if he were to become a coach.

According to the Oklahoman, the 39-year-old guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder seemed like he is finally ready to call it a career. With the success of Jason Kidd jumping straight from player to coach, Fisher has a similar opportunity and he knows it and he is interested.

"I think I've always - for the last decade - really felt my purpose in life and calling was to be in a leadership position or some position of impact on other people," he said in his exit interview Sunday. "I didn't know if that would be philanthropic, community, business, management, continuing to play. But somehow I've been blessed to positively impact other people. I didn't know how that vision would come to life."

During the press conference, Fisher did not confirm his retirement, but the Oklahoman noted the emotion in the way he spoke indicated otherwise. He would reportedly be welcomed back to the Thunder if he does not retire, but as an unofficial coach who sits on the bench and plays on occasion.

"Coaching allows me to positively impact other people's lives, to help people find success when they haven't or have, working together for common goal," Fisher said. "That's what I did for 33 years as a player, starting with basketball at age 6. There's a love for helping other people. Not playing anymore - if that's what it's to be - coaching or being in the front office or being in a role where I can positively impact others and work together for a common goal is exciting to me."

He has the opportunity now and at least two teams reportedly have interest in hiring Fisher. The New York Knicks recently hired Phil Jackson as the team's president and Fisher played for the former great for several years. According to NBC Sports, Fisher would listen to an offer from Jackson.

The other possibility is the Los Angeles Lakers hiring Fisher, similar to how the Brooklyn Nets hired Kidd. Like the former Nets guard, Fisher was a longtime leader for the Lakers and has a relationship with Kobe Bryant. But there lies a potential issue: would Fisher be able to coach Kobe?

Fisher has a good reason to be optimistic, especially given the way veterans like Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce played for Kidd.

"People don't see what he does behind the scenes, but the guy, he's incredible," fellow Thunder veteran Nick Collison said at the conference. "Different from any teammate I've had. The way he can address the team. Almost like a coach, but guys don't roll their eyes at him like, 'Who is this guy?' He feels like one of us."
