The deadline for most regular high school students to make their college decisions is approaching. The unofficial one for top 100 basketball players passed a while ago. Just three of ESPN's top 100 basketball recruits have yet to sign or commit with a team. One remains from the top 75, #2 overall prospect Myles Turner.

No longer. About an hour ago, Turner chose Texas during Wednesday's press conference at 3:00 pm CST in his high school gym, the Kansas City Star dourly reported (they were hoping he'd end up at the University of Kansas).

Though Texas wasn't always the favorite, recent reports had him choosing the school in his hometown state.

"Boy oh boy What a journey ... If you can get out of 5th PD (hour) I will be committing at 3 p.m., (in) THS upper gym tomorrow #stoked," Turner tweeted on Tuesday night.

Other schools in the running for the 7-foot center's services were Kansas, Duke (which would have given them three of the top four ranked players), SMU (he could have paired with #5 overall prospect Emmanuel Mudiay and the rest of the Mustang's promising returning cast), Oklahoma State, Ohio State, and Texas A&M.

For a while, Kentucky was in the running for Turner, but either one, the other, or both bowed out following the return of six potential draft picks from last year's team, including four at the power forward/center position. Kentucky also added two top 10 recruits over 6-foot-10 to form one of the most interesting frontcourt situations maybe in college basketball history.

Turner joins a talented Texas roster that went 23-10 last year and lost in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament to Michigan. Amazingly, they didn't have senior on the team this year. Thus, they project to be a contender with the addition of Turner.
