Congratulations Google! Your one day Glass sale was a smash success. The "cotton" colored versions (why cotton? probably to prove they could call them anything and still make sales) sold out before brunch became lunch, the San Jose Mercury News reported. For a little bit -- likely because sales were so good -- Google even considered extending the promotion another day. Then, they remembered whatever complex, long term marketing plan they've been following since Glass came out over a year ago. So they did the opposite and ended sales early. Google. Always staying one step ahead of the consumer.

"Wow, what a morning! We're happy to see so many new faces (and frames) in the Explorer community. Just a quick update that -- ack -- we just sold out of Cotton, (a color of Google Glass) so things are moving really fast," read the report from the company's own Google + account.

Even the San Jose Mercury News wondered what Google was hoping to accomplish with their one day event, proving I'm not the only one halfway baffled by the company's handling of Glass (the other half is starting to sniff their plan). J.P. Gownder, vice president and principal analyst with the Forrester tech research firm, said the sale will at least give Google an idea of consumer interest when they finally do decide to release Glass to the public (which is supposedly happening later this year). That and it continued to build intrigue around an already intriguing product.

In keeping with Glass' mysteriousness, Google hasn't (and probably won't, according to the Mercury News) release how many eye computers they sold today. Before today, however, they previously disclosed that about 10,000 people have become "Explorers," or those who had to apply first (and pay) to own the $1,500 product.
