Tina Fey, Amy Poehler To Play Sisters In New Comedy 'The Nest,' Their Fourth Film Together (But Really Only Their Second)
ByYes! Amy Poehler and Tina Fey -- maybe the best (and maybe the only) steady female comedic duo in the business -- will play sisters in the to-be filmed Universal comedy, "The Nest," E! News reported.
Actually, Poehler and Fey have really only starred in one movie together, 2008's "Baby Mama" (excellent film). In their other two appearances, they either never saw screen time together ("Mean Girls") or served as cameos ("Anchorman"). Of course, the two have a long history on "Saturday Night Live." More than that, they possess a remarkably similar sense of humor, perhaps why their career paths have mostly gone in the same direction since their SNL departures. Both have starred (or currently star) in a hit network show ("30 Rock" for Fey, "Parks and Recreation" for Poehler), while mixing in the occasional film. As a relevant side note, they were born a year apart.
Fey has had the greater success, but Poehler is catching up. Depending how she fares in "The Nest" -- and depending if fans grow tired of Fey's usual act as some did with 2013's "Admissions" (even though I enjoyed it) -- Poehler could creep closer to Fey as the queen of comedy.
Besides its name ("The Nest" has been the title of at least six movies since 1943, not including "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest"), the latest "The Nest" looks promising for comedic fun. Basically, Fey and Poehler learn their parents are selling their childhood home. As a sendoff, they plan one giant goodbye party.
That Fey and Poehler intend to throw a party might mean they're playing different characters than they usually do, at least in the case of Fey. She typically embodies the self-deprecating nerd who'd resist while her so called cooler friends plan a huge rager. It's time she move away from her hugely successful character from "30 Rock" and tried new things. Hopefully, that time starts with "The Nest."
