Villanova coach Jay Wright made a good point last week about UConn that was both biased (because it helped explain why his team lost to the Huskies) and probably true: their defense is really good, better even than Florida's. Though scoring is usually lower in the tournament, they've held each of their postseason opponents below their scoring averages. More impressively, they kept their last two below 55 points.

Kevin Ollie indirectly agreed with Wright's assessment today in a preview interview to tonight's agme.

"Hopefully we have an opportunity to fall back on our defense," Ollie told ESPN. "We have been doing that the whole year."

Whether their defense is really that good or if it's just hot -- and whether they're really this good or just hot -- the most striking part about UConn's tournament run has been their athleticism and talent. Everybody knew how good Shabazz Napier was and how good Ryan Boatwright was supposed to be, but few outside the state were appreciative of the rest of their roster, such as swingman DeAndre Daniels (the subject of this Yahoo profile), versatile forward and German NielsGiffey, seven-foot freshman big man Amida Brimah, and more who are only starting to become unique entities during their five give game introduction to a national audience. Most of the roster returns next year, with the exception of Napier and Giffey.

Perhaps it is their underrated roster that makes them the underdog in almost every tournament game they've played so far. Once again, they'll be underdogs tonight, 2.5 points according to Vegas Insider.

Kentucky's stable of athletes are much more clearly defined in the nation's eyes, though only recently have they begun to play to their preseason billing. They'll remain without sophomore Willie Cauley-Stein, but still be armed with a frontline of freshman Julius Randle and sophomores Alex Poythress and Darkari Johnson. On the perimeter, one or both of the Harrison "twins" will likely be taking and making big shots.

I'm not the biggest Kentucky of John Calipari fan, but I think they'll win it tonight. I have a feeling Napier's going to have an off game while Kentucky continues to play with the poise they've displayed all tournament.
