Murray State University Board of Regents chose Dr. Robert Davies the 13th president of the school, effective July 14.

Davies, the president of Eastern Oregon University since 2009, will succeed interim president Tim Miller.

"We look forward to working with Dr. Davies. The entire campus will benefit from his passionate leadership. He has communicated a vision for Murray State University and we anticipate a warm welcome for Dr. Davies and his family," said Dr. Constantine Curris, board chair, Murray State University, The Lane Report reports.

Davies wishes to improve his career at Murray State. "I want this to be my capstone presidency," The News reports.

He said that in the first few months of his presidency he would like to just listen to the concerns of the campus community.

At Oregon, Davies is credited for raising more than $50 million in state funding for building renovations and donating $120,000 for scholarships and faculty research. He also helped increase enrollment, retention and graduation rates to record levels in the university's history.

Prior to Eastern Oregon, Davies served as vice president for University Relations at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, associate vice president for alumni relations and development with State University of New York at Buffalo, and executive director of the alumni association with Boise State University.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in management from the University of Nevada at Reno 1989, Master of Business Administration in finance and marketing from the University of Oregon and a doctorate in higher education administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
