Apple Expands Discount Loyalty Program To Include iPhones, The Apple TV While Increasing Discounts
ByIf only George Clooney's frequent flyer-mile obsessed character from "Up in the Air" had known about Apple's Loyalty Program, he might have sought to re-outfit all his electronic possessions into Apple products. Rather -- because of the $5,000 minimum per year expenditures to qualify -- he might have campaigned his company to make the switch and reap the benefits.
Recently, Apple sweetened the deal for its low-publicized bulk program (low key mostly because of the hefty minimum if you're an individual) by increasing discounts and adding new products, according to Tech Crunch. Like donating to a college, incentives increase depending on how much a company spends. Apple breaks spending into three tiers: the $5,000 red tier, a $35,000 green one, and a "lesser-known $200,000 blue tier," as Tech Crunch described it.
Benefits vary depending on particular products. The Mac, for example, had been 5 percent in the lower tier. Now it's 6 percent (and up to 8 percent on the high tier). Accessories went from 5 to 10 percent on the red level, and, of course, higher thereon after.
One new Apple has added to the discount list was unlocked iPhones. Their addition only makes sense if companies wish to equip their employees with a fleet of new, high-tech smart phones.
More famously, they've also included the Apple TV for discount. According to Tech Crunch and Stephen Hacket of 512 pixels, they're actually more popular than you'd think in schools and businesses.
"The AppleTV's stronghold has been the living room, but with technology like AirPlay, it's finding its way in conference rooms and classrooms more and more," Hackett told Tech Crunch. "While iOS' AirPlay has been around for a bit, OS X's ability to use an Apple TV as an external display lets people share data on a TV or projector easily, without dealing with a bunch of cables and video adapters."
