#6 Villanova (27-3, 15-2) is, in some ways, the Wichita State of the power conferences. They've shown an uncommon (and underrated) ability to beat up on above average division I college basketball teams, which happen to comprise most of the Big East this year. In light or in dark of their early season wins over Kansas and Iowa, that shouldn't necessarily be viewed as a knock, but a testament to their effort. Jay Wright has his team playing hungry and smart every night (and if they're not, he has what seems to be one of the quickest substitution rates in the country). #13 Creighton (23-5, 13-4) has been the only exception to the Wildcat's mojo this year. Likely, they'll get one more crack at the Blue Jays in the Big East tournament.

Because of a weaker Big East, Villanova has been slightly disrespected by the polls, most recently after Virginia (25-5) moved ahead of them from the 12 spot. Probably, there's some fairness to that, for 'Nova would likely have a few more losses if they played in the ACC. Then again, Creighton isn't in the ACC so their conference record might actually have been better in the questionably southern league (referring to northern implants like Boston College and Syracuse).

Already, Villanova has clinched the conference. Today's game at home against Georgetown (17-12, 8-9) will be important not only for maintaining their poll position, a chance at a one seed in the NCAA tournament, and momentum for both the conference tournament and the NCAA, but the rare accomplishment of a 30-win season. They'd have to win today and win the next two games in the conference tournament. If a one-seed doesn't come of that, the silver-lining might come with the extra chip in the Wildcats' shoulder during a notoriously chippy March Madness. Can't wait.

I haven't calculated this yet, but Villanova has covered at an extraordinary rate this year. Without looking at the spread (OK, juts looked at, it's 10.5), I'm going with the 'Cats.
