"I love how this team goes about their business, their approach and how resolute they are," Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall told reporters, according to ESPN. "They're really, really focused and locked in to the next challenge, and that's how you win 32 in a row."
Wichita State's Jan. 11 win over Missouri State was one of six victories decided by less than 10 points. The Bears also had a 19-point lead in that game, which ended up going to overtime, where the Shockers secured a 72-69 win. Wichita State then beat Missouri State handily on March 1, 68-45.
Wichita State entered the MVC Tournament as the top-seeded team in 2006 and 2012, but lost in the semifinals both times. Their last MVC Tournament win was 1987.
"I don't tell good players to pass on good shots," Marshall said. "When it's your turn to shoot and you're open, I want you to shoot it, and, in fact, I get upset with them when they don't.
"I think they've got character, for sure."
Cleanthony Early is the focal point of the offense, but he is also one of four shooters averaging at least 10 points per game. It will be important for Missouri State to make things difficult for Early and then force Wichita State's other shooters to step up.
Other than Jarmar Gulley and Marcus Marshall, who each average 14 points for the Bears, the team does not have anyone else with at least 10 points per game.
