Professors Say UnitedHealthcare CEO Murderer and UPenn Alum is a Result of 'Ivy League 'Radicalization'
Authorities linked Mangione's crime to his anti-capitalist beliefs.
ByArrested five days after his nationwide manhunt, UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson's alleged killer is Luigi Nicholas Mangione. The 26-year-old suspect is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with the reasons behind his alleged killing have been considered highly controversial.
Mangione, who graduated in computer science and received both a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania, is said to have committed a premeditated attack. The police found him with a gun with a silencer, four fake IDs, and a manifesto against the health insurance industry, specifically UnitedHealthcare.
Investigators believe that Mangione's anti-capitalist beliefs, coupled with his support for climate change activism, contributed significantly to the crime.
Fox News interviewed Cornell Law professor William Jacobson, who stated that Ivy League schools are more skewed toward leftist ideologies and it might influence the thinking pattern of students. He believed that anti-capitalist and anti-American sentiments are widespread at such institutions.
In fact, a former teacher of Mangione's alma mater faced criticism after initially writing praise for him on the social media platform before the woman retracted her postings.
