A day after Trump's win, students are already looking to migrate out of the country to finish their studies, and now the Republican President's threat to shut down Education is causing panic in the field.

Recently, American University confirmed that its School of Education (SOE) will remain open, addressing rumors that its potential closure is near.

According to DC News Now, a representative clarified that there is no discussion of closing the SOE after social media speculation led many to believe the school might be at risk. Allegedly, there were emails from SOE's Dean, Cheryl Holcomb-McCoy that the university faced a $60 million budget deficit that would result in cuts affecting SOE.

The email also implied that the Dean will be departing from the university and that SOE will lose its independence by being integrated into the CAS (College of Arts and Sciences). As mentioned in the email, this would reduce its autonomy as more nationwide changes are expected following potential shits within the US Department of Education, which Trump plans to abolish, per MSNBC.

American University dismissed these speculations and reassured students, staff, and the public that while there will be an administrative structure within SOE, it will only undergo some restructuring and there will be no plans to close or change its educational offerings.

The university also emphasized that it will remain dedicated to supporting the school's growth and success, and the students that came from it.
