A Western Washington University dean was arrested on campus Monday after allegedly communicating with a minor for "immoral purposes."

School officials issued a statement on Tuesday that Dean of Libraries John Dannekar had been placed on administrative leave after being taken into custody.

"Danneker has been removed as Dean of Libraries. He is placed on administrative leave pending completion of the University's investigation, which will be done in conjunction with local law enforcement," read the school statement, according to Whatcom News.

The advisory said police officers responded to suspicious activity outside Haggard Hall on Monday and questioned two men. Authorities arrested Danneker, while the second man had reported the incident and was unaffiliated with the university, the outlet said.

Danneker, 48, is facing misdemeanor and felony charges, and was set to appear in Whatcom County District Court on Tuesday.

This comes just days after two student deaths were reported at Western Washington University within a 24-hour period, leaving the campus community in shock.
