Northwest Arkansas Community College has pushed back the start date for most fall classes following a ransomware attack last week.
The new start date is Aug. 26, instead of the originally scheduled Aug. 19. Health professions programs will begin as planned on Aug. 19, according to the school.
The college shut down its entire network on July 30 after detecting a cyber threat, prompting NWACC to involve cybersecurity experts and the FBI. The school has stated that the threat came from outside their network and is still under investigation, though they have not detailed the nature of the threat.
NWACC assured that payroll and benefits would continue as scheduled, and the fall payment deadline has been extended. The restoration of the network began on Aug. 1, and the decision to delay classes was made during a Board of Trustees meeting on Aug. 5.
