NCAA Swimmer to Return to Texas College After Being Removed From Olympic Village For Creating 'Innapropriate Atmosphere'
ByA division 1 NCAA swimmer and olympian representing Paraguay will return to Texas after abrupty retiring from the sport during the 2024 Paris games and allegedly being removed from the Olympic village for creating an "innapropriate atmosphere," according to reports.
Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso, 20, announced her retirement from the sport after failing to qualify for a medal. Alonso has multiple Paraguayan records in butterfly, and swims for Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, according to multiple reports.
Alonso was asked to leave the games for allegedly leaving the village and taking a trip to Disneyland Paris instead of supporting teammates, according to The Sun.
"Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay. We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes' Village," Paraguayan Olympic Committee boss Larissa Schaerer.
Alonso took to Instagram on Monday to address her leaving, saying that she was neve removed or expelled from the village.
"I don't want to give any statement but I'm not going to let lies affect me either," Alonso wrote, according to the DailyBeast.
