Creighton Vs. Georgetown Preview And Live Stream Link: Blue Jays Battle Through Big East Mediocrity
ByIt's going to be a tough last two game stretch for #13 Creighton (23-5, 13-3), which tells you how far the Big East has fallen this year because none of the last two are against ranked teams and one of the games is at home. The Big East is still a big pond, but with only two large predators (Creighton and Villanova) and an assortment of medium-ranged fish. The Blue Jays' opponent tonight, Georgetown (16-12, 7-9) is average among the conference's above-average teams headlined by Xavier, Providence, and St. John's.
Losing last weekend to Xavier (20-10, 10-7) by six was respectable, but a second loss tonight (7:00 pm EST, FS1) would cast doubt on what many were calling the conference's most dangerous team after they beat #6 Villanova (26-3, 14-2) for the second time by a wide margin. Pundits and fans alike are still wondering why Creighton is such poison to the Wildcats of Villanova.
Based on those games and the one versus Xavier on Saturday, one thing the Musketeers did better than 'Nova was to apply pressure on Creighton's shooters, who had one of their worst games all season in hitting just 10 of 34 from three. Missed shots also have a way of appearing forced in the way makes don't, which is part of what spurred Wooden candidate Doug McDermott's (27 points on quote to ESPN on Tuesday.
"We had a couple of forced ones," McDermott said of the Xavier game. "That's not who we are. We are a team that historically shares the ball. We'll get back to that. Nothing to worry about here."
Though the Blue Jays have a dynamic offense, they need to be at least semi-respectable from three pointer range to keep defenses honest. Otherwise, they'll have a difficult time getting in the lane. Plus, they're only slightly above average defensively.
Georgetown is largely the opposite -- unsophisticated on offense but athletic enough on defense to win a few games (though they've had some bad blowouts this year).
Creighton is only 3.5 point favorites. As a Villanova fan, how could I not pick them? Them for the cover.
