Facebook's office move from midtown Manhattan on Madison Avenue to a larger building downtown, 770 Broadway to be specific, began today, Mashable reported. The switch allows the still growing company (hello $19 billion WhatsApp purchase) more space, while also putting them in the same building as the headquarters of media companies AOL, Adweek, Backstage, and Billboard as the social media site continues to expand into the news sector.

"We're beginning the move into our new home at 770 Broadway at Astor Place, a building that holds a special place in the history of advertising and media, from its origin as John Wanamaker's department store to now being not just Facebook's new home, but also the headquarters for Aol, Adweek, Backstage and Billboard," Carolyn Everson, vice president of global marketing solutions, posted as a status on her personal Facebook page.

Facebook still has its headquarters in Menlo Park, CA, 17 others (including NY) throughout North America, and many more worldwide. They set up offices in New York in 2006, according to their page.

Like their headquarters, the Broadway building will be set up in the same multi-colored manner and in the style of modern offices with spacious furniture arrangements, transparent meeting rooms, and a more collaborative, less cubicle layout of desks, based on pictures posted on allfacebook.com. The shots strongly resemble the office depicted in 2008's "The Social Network."

Though construction will continue into spring there should be enough space to accommodate their 300 plus staff, according to Mashable.

"Today, Facebook New York begins our first day of business at our new offices at 770 Broadway," Facebook New York Site Director Serkan Piantino wrote in a post. "We're excited to join the Astor Place neighborhood and continue to invest in the great tech community here. Finding this space took months of searching and design, and even now, it's still being built around us. We have plenty of work ahead as we continue to grow."
