Police officials believe alcohol consumption might have played a role in the death of 21-year-old Denison University student.
The body of David Hallman III was found at about 10:30 p.m., Feb.9, 20 hours after he left Brew's Cafe Granville around 2:00 a.m. The Erie, Pa., native was spotted outside a garage of a condo complex that was situated about a half mile away from the downtown Granville restaurant.
The senior, who was just months away from graduation, is reported to have passed out in the snow after a get-together with his friends. Laurel Kennedy, vice president for student development at the central Ohio college, that "it appears he had fallen asleep and then succumbed to hypothermia," abc local reports.
On Saturday, the temperatures dropped to 4 degrees. The surveillance video shows the blond-haired, blue-eyed student left the Cafe without wearing his winter jacket.
According to American Live Wire, it is common for people to fall asleep following alcohol consumption and eventually die from exposure, or suffer serious injuries. Intoxication makes a person unaware of the dangers while the body shuts down due to severe weather conditions.
Toxicology reports are yet to be conducted to determine the blood alcohol level at the time of Hallman's death.
Hallman, who was majoring in history with an economics minor, was reported missing when he failed to arrive at a noontime date with his girlfriend.
"David was a wonderful young man who was widely admired by our campus community," University President Adam Weinberg said in a statement. "Right now, our focus is on supporting our students. We are very proud of the way our students came together last night to support one another," NY Daily News reports.
