Both teams have potent offenses led by dynamic scorers. Both teams have suffered one loss at home and three on the road. Oklahoma State could lose its third in a row and Iowa State could lose the fifth game in their last seven since bursting out of the gate with 14 consecutive wins.
The Cowboys are playing at home and have won the last 18 matchups against the Cyclones on their own court. Sophomore guard Marcus Smart will have to bounce back from the loss against Baylor where he shot 3-14 from the field and 0-7 from range.
"We're playing in spurts right now," Cowboys coach Markel Brown told reporters, according to ESPN. "Sometimes, we get out there and relax and that's when the other team punches us in the mouth. I feel like we need to just go out there and play hard, never take a play off, battle the boards all night long, no matter how physical the other team has been, and get back out to pushing the ball and sharing it."
Cyclones leading scorer, senior forward Melvin Ejim, is leading the highly competitive Big 12 with 18.1 points per game. He is coming off an impressive win against Oklahoma where he scored 22 points, pulled down 16 rebounds, had 2 steals, 2 blocks and added an assist for good measure.
"It's going to be a tough game," Cyclones coach Fred Hoiberg told reporters, according to ESPN. "I hope we can build off of the last two wins we've had - Kansas State and (Oklahoma) - because we've made plays down the stretch when they've closed the gap to find a way to win. You obviously have to do that on the road. It's a big one. There's a lot of teams right now that got beat (Saturday), and if you go out and get one on the road, especially in Stillwater, that's certainly gaining one on the field."
