For Super Bowl XLVIII, the weather actually will not play as large of a roll as many believed when the NFL announced its northeastern location.
Early in the season, some were concerned that early Feb. in New Jersey was just asking for a nor'easter to hit the NFL's biggest game. Now, forecasts from the Weather Channel and AccuWeather call for clear skies and less than 50 percent chance of precipitation.
During the day, TWC says the high will be 50 degrees Fahrenheit with a 30 percent chance of snow late at night, if temperatures dip low enough. AccuWeather predicts rain at a 47 percent to 51 percent chance before the 6:25 p.m. scheduled kickoff time.
So what does this mean for the Super Bowl? Here are five ways clear skies and chilly temperatures will affect the big game.
1. Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson have no excuses throwing the ball.
Not that they would make any, but on a clear night with temperatures that can barely be called "freezing," both passers should deliver crisp, clean throws all night.
2. The Broncos' defensive front will have its hands full with a full dose of Beast Mode.
One of the toughest running backs in the NFL will not have to deal with a slippery field or precipitation on the ball, so expect Marshwn Lynch to go full Beast Mode Sunday night.
3. Richard Sherman and the Legion of Boom will get its biggest test ever.
Arguably the best defensive backfield in the NFL will have to play all the way up to its potential to cover Peyton's plethora of talented passing targets, including the tight ends and running backs.
4. Roger Goodell's declaration that he will sit outside for the game is a little less bold now.
Goodell may have to break out the hand warmers by the time the halftime show ends, but for any New Englander, 40 degrees on Feb. 2 may as well be time for the year's first barbeque.
5. Bruno Mars will have to suck it up and endure temperatures in the mid-40s for about 15 minutes.
The Hawaii native told Forbes he does not care what the temperature is and will play a "fearless" show regardless.
"Everyone's saying it's going to be cold, and this and that," says Mars. "I'm like, 'I'm gonna go for it.' ... You gotta be fearless, man.
"It's the biggest stage ever. It's something you're not gonna say no to."
