Goodwill Career Connections is known for assisting those who are looking for a job. It also offers aid to local businesses, organization and employed citizens. They strive for excellence in providing resume assistance, career coaching and guidance and even mock interviews.

During the job process, they use various equipment and programs such as computers to write resumes on and the internet to use for applying for a position. They have special paper available for printing resumes and fax machines to send them. They also have job postings and job site information.

Career Connections Specialist Alyson Snow helps update the boards several times a week. She said they have a lot of people who come in just to look at the job posting board.

The Elkin Tribune reported that job seekers are encouraged to spend a significant amount of time taking advantage of the free opportunities at GCCS. Workforce Development Regional Manager Janet Carlton said their favorite quote is "finding a job is a full time job."

They are located at 1457 N. Bridge St. in Elkin. Snow said they don't always stay in house and go out into the community where they take turns going to The Ark. They also work closely with Surry County Veterans Services and Kevin Hege, the veterans career advisor for NCWorks.

They provide workshops and classes such as the Learn the New You program where they teach how to improve resume, wardrobe, interview skills and other job search-related issues. Employers are welcome to hold interviews, job fairs, training and other activities at the GCCS. They have also held job fairs where they invited 25 companies.

It is a place to get information as they have a shelf and kiosk full of pamphlets and guides. Non-profit organizations are welcome to supply GCCS with literature for the information center.

The services and facilities are free because of contribution through the Goodwill stores. Goodwill Career Connections is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 336-526-2144 or go to goodwillnwnc.org.
