Google Pixel C Not Forgotten In New Android Nougat 7.1.2 Update; Tablet And Smartphone Interface Now Identical
ByGoogle may be planning to discontinue the Google Pixel C brand, but it has not forgotten its tablet users in the latest rollout of the non-beta version of the Android Nougat 7.1.2 update. There are minor changes but the most interesting aspect is that both tablet and the Pixel smartphones have the same interface showing same navigational buttons and a blue-grey color design.
The Android Nougat 7.1.2 non-beta version was rolled out last week to users under the beta testing program, but owners of the Google Pixel C outside of the program have been begun receiving the update as well. A post on Reddit reveals that some Google Pixel C devices have received the latest 340.1MB update, which includes some tweaks on the interface and the latest Android security patches.
The over-the-air (OTA) update is actually earlier than expected, which is supposed to be rolled out today, April 3, suggesting that Pixel C owners may begin checking their "about" menu for the update status anytime now.The update comes as a surprise after a year and a half that the tablet has been on sale, revealing that it may be replaced by a new upgraded tablet under a new brand, allegedly reverting to the Nexus name.
With the Android Nougat 7.1.2, the Google Pixel C and Google Pixel smartphones now have identical interface with the same navigational buttons, rounded app icons and color tones of blue-grey. The tablet also received a mew multi-tasking feature that allows users to choose or switch between 8 opened apps in a 2x4 grid, 9to5Google reported.
The "apps drawer" is gone and installed software may be viewed by swiping from the bottom of the screen. The Google search bar is also gone and replaced by a "G" logo found in the top left part, which can be tapped or swiped across when making a search.
Furthermore, the Google Pixel C received the Pixel launcher for the first time where navigational buttons have undergone a new redesign. Another minor tweak brought by the Android Nougat 7.1.2 relocates the weather and date widget to the top right corner of the screen.
Some users have reported an annoying but small issue when tapping the weather page, which is set in portrait mode only and not in landscape for easy viewing when the tablet is docked. The latest update is available today for Pixel C owners though there are also reports that it has been rolled out to some Google Nexus player set-top box, Engadget reported.
