University Of Iowa Lecturer Falsely Reports Laptop As Stolen Because It Contained Pornography
ByA University of Iowa lecturer is accused of reporting his laptop stolen because it contained pornography, KCRG News reported.
Music lecturer Brent Sandy, 56, reported on Jan. 13 that his laptop had been stolen from his office while he was away for three minutes, University of Iowa police told KCRG News.
The university's Information Technology staff tracked down the allegedly stolen laptop using the device's Mediacom IP address. The information was relayed to police who used that information to determine that the laptop was actually at Sandy's home.
The Press-citizen.com reported that police executed a search warrant at Sandy's Iowa City residence, where they not only found his laptop, but a small container of marijuana, a dugout and a one-hitter.
Police told press Sandy eventually admitted to removing the laptop from his office because it contained pornography and he was scheduled to get a new laptop.

Sandy is a creative music/lead trumpet player, composer, and 2008 Fulbright Scholar in Greece. In 2009 he was a featured soloist on the album "Mystery and Manners" by John Rapson. He has worked as a clinician and guest artist throughout the country.
He has performed and recorded with jazz notables such as Paul Smoker, Kenny Wheeler, Bobby Shew, Ray Anderson, Steven Bernstein, Robert Dick, Ray Vega, "Soundpainter" Walter Thompson, Anthony Cox, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow and Kim Richmond.
The lecturer has been charged with third-degree theft, making false reports and possession of a controlled substance.
