Google Pixel 2 phones arrive with fresh "fishy" names from the company. Everyone meet "Walleye" and "Muskie".

The new line of consumer electric devices from the massive tech firm includes the Google Pixel 2 and the upgraded Pixel XL. The brands were first released in October 2016. Google Store also offers Pixel C tablets and Chromebook laptops.

Google Pixel 2: Codename

According to Tech Radar, the codenames are actually two freshwater creatures that look like the marlin and sailfish. This could mean that the "cousins" of the Pixel and Pixel XL handsets are coming soon. The same source predicts that "Walleye" refers to the Google Pixel 2 while "Muskie" is the larger variant.

Apparently, the company has a rich history of naming their next gadgets after aquatic species. For one thing, the original Pixel phone was dubbed as the "Sailfish". Nonetheless, it is important to note that Google has not released any official statement about the development of the Google Pixel 2.

Meanwhile, the Pixel line actually celebrates its first anniversary this coming fall. So, if the firm plans to release the Google Pixel 2, this is really an ideal time for it to plan its handset sequels. Accordingly, the highly anticipated gadgets might drop the headphone jack like the iPhone 7.

Specs of the Google Pixel 2

Unfortunately, Slash Gear said that nothing is really known about the Google Pixel 2 as of this time. Beyond the codenames, there not much information about what is coming from the tech firm. Nevertheless, whatever the improvements are, they should be better than the previous features of the Pixel phone.

Now, based on the specifications of the first Pixel phones, the following are the things Google will most likely out-do this year. First, the Google Pixel 2 may be bigger than a 5" Gorilla Glass 4 screen with 1080 AMOLED display. Also, it should sport an upgraded processor this time from the previous Qualcomm Snapdragon 821. Other features of the original Google Pixel include 4GB of RAM, 12MP rear cam, 8MP selfie shooter, and USB-C ports.

Lastly, the Google Pixel XL showcased a 5.5" 2K AMOLED screen. Aside from that, most of its features are pretty much like that of the regular model. Google Pixel 2 is expected to thrive with more power as well. Its predecessor has a 3450mAH battery with an IP53 rating (dust resistant).
