As the MacBook launch schedule draws closer, reports popping out suggest that Apple could consider ARM-based chips for the lineups. How about Intel?
New processor for Macs reportedly in the works
Reports suggest that there will be an architecture change in MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lineup this year. According to a source familiar to the matter, it is plausible that Apple will make a switch in 2017 or 2018 for the notebooks and even for the 5K iMac, MacObserver wrote.
An ARM RISC-based chip has a distinct architecture that enables a device to run efficiently with less power consumption. Furthermore, it is different from the counterpart, Intel X86, because ARM chip doesn't take much time to figure out the orders. Last year, Bloomberg noted from an informant that Apple has worked on a new processor. This seems to corroborate the speculation of a new chip for the MacBook laptop range.
ARM chip for MacBook Air
It's reported that MacBook Air could be one of the lineup candidate to ship with an ARM chip, according to MacWorld. The custom chip could be making its debut in MacBook Pro and Air this year, the media outlet went on to say.
Will ARM-based chip worry Intel?
This year means a huge challenge for Intel. After AMD unleashed a fierce CPU contender, the ARM chips seem to make the matter worse. It reportedly brings more advantages to wide range of devices than Intel could offer.
Intel shipped Kaby Lake few months ago but it's uncertain as to which laptop or tablet that would sport the processor. The speculation revolves around Microsoft Surface Pro and iMac 2017 but so far, there's been no information could authorize the claim.
Do you think fans will see an ARM-based chip under the hood of a MacBook Pro this year?
