Koenigsegg Agera RS 'Gryphon' & Two Customer Regeras Unveiled At The 2017 Geneva Motor Show
ByKoenigsegg rolled out two customer Regeras and a black Agera with real 24-carat gold at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show.
In 2015, Koenigsegg revealed the first Regera supercar at the same motoring event. This year, the Swedish firm plans to manufacture 80 variants in total, its highest production to date. The goal is to build between 20 and 25 models per year, which requires factory upgrades.
Koenigsegg Agera RS 'Gryphon'
Aside from the Regera production models, Koenigsegg also showcased the latest version of the Agera RS series. It was named after a mythical creature with the body and rear legs of a lion and head, wings and front talons of an eagle - the 'Gryphon'. As of now, the Koenigsegg Agera RS "Gryphon" is expected to arrive in the United States anytime soon.
According to Car Scoops, the gold has been applied to the badging and striping outside the Koenigsegg Agera RS. The hood struts and interior highlights also get their equal share of the precious element. A personalized racing helmet produced by Ettore "Blaster" Callegaro, an Italian master craftsman, sports a gold leaf decoration too.
Under the hood of the Koenigsegg "Gryphon", a 1,360hp twin-turbo V8 engine can be seen. Approximately weighing 1,395kg with fluids, the new Agera RS did not quite make it to the 1:1 power to weight ratio. On the inside, it is covered with black Alcantara, black anodized aluminum, and polished carbon fiber. Its seats have gold piping complemented by a "Gryphon" badge.
Two Koenigsegg customer Regeras
According to Motor Authority, Koenigsegg developed a system called Direct Drive. It connects the vehicle's twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 engine to the wheels through a single-speed reduction gear. It also boasts an efficient hydraulic coupling system.
Once the Koenigsegg Regera reaches 30mph, the coupling system locks up and synchronizes the wheel spin and engine rpm. Below the required speed, an electric drive system takes place. The latter includes three electric motors placed on both rear wheels and one on the engine.
The highest output of the Koenigsegg Regera is listed at a whopping 1,500hp. It can boost the Regera from zero to 168mph in about 10 seconds. For the record, others claim that continuous pressure to the gas pedal permits the car to reach 248mp within the same time.
The first of the two Koenigsegg Regeras is covered in green paint with brown interior. Meanwhile, the other car comes in badass black and red colors. Lastly, it has over 2,000 Nm of torque and can run for up to 500km/h.
