California Polytechnic State University is considering tight restrictions that would carefully govern how registered parties are held on campus.

The proposal, reported the Mustang News, would require parties to be registered and ban "hard alcohol," kegs, taking shots and playing drinking games. The proposal would also regulate how much alcohol each person could bring to a party.

A discussion took place Friday between Cal Poly administrators and Greek student leaders to discuss the party-registration policy. Since an agreement was not reached by five p.m., all Greek chapters were placed on social probation, effective immediately.

Dean of Students Jean DeCosta represented the school in Friday's discussion and said the two sides will meet again Monday.

"They were asking about so many things all over the map, and I was in and out of the meeting all day," DeCosta told the Mustang News. "So we asked them to go back to the draft and write down what they wanted to see different."

The proposal draft would require parties to be registered five days in advance with details included on the event's theme, location and number of invitees. If a party will serve alcohol, it needs to end by midnight, but any event can only be scheduled on Friday or Saturday. If attendees wish to bring their own alcohol, it must be either a six-pack of beer or a bottle of wine.

Greek events serving alcohol may not occur during finals week or during Welcome Week at a campus facility or satellite house. Greek events will also be closed to the public and guest lists will have to be submitted before the event and after with names and birthdays.

Details of the proposal are subject to change, as it is only a draft and has yet to be agreed upon. DeCosta said she fully expects an agreement to be reached this week.

"I hope it won't be too long," she said, "and I expect negotiations will continue until we come to an agreement."
