ByThe weekend slate of college basketball games saw at least six major upsets, leading to a massive shakeup of in the latest Associated Press top-25 ranking.
According to ESPN, 11 ranked teams lost at least one in week 11 of the college basketball season. While Arizona (1) and Syracuse (2) remained firmly entrenched atop the list, six unranked teams entered the rankings.
Released Monday, the AP's week-11 rankings welcomed newcomers Cincinnati (19), Creighton (20), Pittsburgh (22), Saint Louis (24), Oklahoma (25) and UCLA (25). Oregon, Missouri, Gonzaga, Illinois and Kansas State were all dropped from the top-25.
Arizona received 61 of a possible 65 first-place votes and Syracuse got the other four. Both teams have remained first and second for six straight weeks now.
Nine teams moved up or down the rankings by at least five places, with Ohio State (11) suffering the biggest fall (-8) and Cincinnati and Memphis both climbing seven places for the biggest rise.
Just behind Ohio State was Duke (23) who dropped seven spots after losing their third of four games against ACC rivals. The latest upset came at the hands of Clemson, who won fairly handily, 72-59. The Blue Devils host Virginia Monday night and another loss could potentially drop them from the top-25. Since 1982, Duke has spent an astonishing 519 of a possible 570 weeks in the AP top-25.
With the top two spots once again unchanged, the other three spots are occupied by Wisconsin (3), Michigan State (4) and Wichita State (5), all of whom moved up one spot after Ohio State's fall from third.
At 18 last week, Kansas was also bordering on falling to the bottom end of the top-25, but wins against Oklahoma and Kansas State helped them move up to 15. The Jayhawks have three consecutive games against ranked opponents and could make a sizeable leap with two or three victories in that stretch.
