Intel is not saying "Game Over" yet days before the Ryzen processors' launch as retailers show massive price cuts for the Core i7, i5, and i3 processors. Amazon and Newegg show slight changes with minimal discounts but Microcenter offers as much as $300 price cut. Intel Core i7-6950X is now selling at $1,300 from its original price of $1,600. Moreover, rumor has it that the beleaguered tech giant is now working on a beast of a CPU with 12-cores, the Skylake-X.

As many tech experts had hoped, Intel will not allow an AMD threat to go unchallenged or at the very leats unresponded. The latest move by the decade-long leader in the CPU market may follow what its retailers have been doing. This means that more price cuts on Intel's Kaby Lake processors may still come in the following days before Ryzen officially launches on March 2. Microcenter offers the most discounts ranging from $10 to $300.

The Intel Core i7-6950X posted the highest price cut among the Kaby Lake processors. The 10-core CPU was launched in the second quarter of 2016 with a base clock of 3.0GHz and a boost of 4.0GHz. It is still pricey at the reduced price of $1,300, but chances are that Amazon and Newegg may follow suit with even more price cuts. As of writing, Amazon offers minimal price cuts like only $10 less from the $315 Core i7-6700k or at the most $45 less from the $628 Core i7-6850K, Hot Hardware has learned.

However, Intel can hardly combat AMD's growing threat by just slashing the prices off from its Kaby Lake processors. Though AMD's pricing is one of its biggest competitive advantages, Intel must also beat it from a performance standpoint. Rumor has it that Intel may be working on a beast of a CPU, a 12-core Skylake-X as picked up by an Italian website, bitsandchips.it. Though still an unverified report, it is still worth looking into on what Intel may be up to these past few weeks.

The Skylake-X is a 12-core, 24-thread processor that completes the 10-core processors at the high-end of Intel's CPU lineup. Intel's Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors are expected to launch during the Gamescom 2017, which will be held in Cologne, Germany according to wccftech. Intel will be launching four SKUs that will be on the X299 platform and using the 14nm fabrication process. The Kaby Lake processors will utilize an optimized process node which would result in better clock speeds, lower TDP, and far greater efficiency.
